In The Name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful.
By
reading the title for the first time, most of our mind will quickly start a
mini-concert of a song which goes by the same name. ‘The Man Who Can’t Be
Moved’ is actually a hit song from a band known as The Script which through
this song, it depicts the idea of man who is just unable to stop himself from
hoping and waiting for his dream girl.
Though
this song is frequently heard when most of us is in the ‘lovey dovey’ mood or
simply reminiscing the good old memories of our past failed relationship, I
would like to think that somehow this song is more than that. I would not say
that the lyrics may have implied another alternative meaning, because you know,
people around the world is getting very paranoid about the idea of
indoctrination through songs which are mostly related to Illuminati. The lyrics
in this song in particular are very clear in delivering its messages.
However
the title of the song which I have made into becoming the title of this article
keeps me wondering till this day. The first wonder or question would be, is it
possible for us to be ideally faithful to someone?
Let
me start by sharing a true story that happen to me while I was studying in a
boarding school. The environment is just different compared to normal daily
school. Instead of discovering your new super duper mega best friend during
your secondary school years, somehow in boarding school, you are granted with a
newfound family. The bond between friends is so strong that it equates the bond
between siblings. Without parents to look after you all around the clock, your
friends are you only hope to look after each other. In short, I was very close
to my batch mates. One day, our English teacher hand us all a piece of paper
which contains the names of every member of the class with blank boxes beside
each name. The instruction was simple. Write a word to describe your friend.
The
result was quite surprising. Out of all the adjectives available, one of my
friends, male or female, describe me as faithful. A word which at the time was
so alien to me. If I am given the chance to describe myself via one word, the
word faithful is never an option. However I am one of the people who strongly
believe in the notion of ‘the people around you will decide who you are’. To an
extent, it is true. The people around us are a reflection of ourselves. Thus, I
have confidence in my friends’ description but at the same time I have no idea
what being faithful is.
The
struggling concept of the present is you need to adapt to survive. The ability
to change is the number one quality in the modern era. The world is changing in
a fast pace, the people is living in the fast lane. The urgency to change,
adapt and survive is no doubt great qualities to begin with. Nevertheless, the
modern society seems to be missing on something.
Something
is just not meant to change. That something is your principle. If you don’t
stand for anything, you will without a doubt fall for everything. The culture
of ‘changing for a better future’ perhaps has a very great impact on our
physical changes to cope with the current demand of modernity but at the same
time it exerts more significant impact on us psychologically.
Researches
by psychologists provide that the current generation is facing a problem of
identifying themselves. People like to be different. Somehow for everyone,
being different means you are special. It’s a human nature. The truth is, all
of us are different and distinct to each other, initially. As I was stressing
about the idea of we need to keep changing to keep up with the ever changing
environment, actually we area changing with a magnitude. All of us is changing
into something uniform. Something standardize, under the perception of this is
what we need to survive.
Let
us ponder for a moment, why is it that the previous generation has been able to
come out with great discoveries for humanity and just by reading their history,
we will realize that the society was also quite uniform at the same time. They
believe that they can’t develop further. They believe that they have reached
the pinnacle of modernity. While a few selected other refuse to have the same
mindset. They on the other hand, believe that we are destined for something
greater. And as history recorded, these people who were despised for being
different, are now glorified by the current generation for leading humanity to
discover many great things for the benefit for our own kind.
Again
then, why is it, when we had actually endorsed the idea of changing, the
current generation is lacking in significant discoveries? Are we satisfied with
what we had or do we think that we had reached the pinnacle of everything just
like the previous generation thought they have done so? Personally, as I
mentioned before, we have a problem with our concept of changing. We are
changing with a magnitude, we are moving towards a direction. The way of
uniformity. Our education system does not cherish and celebrated the different.
The system does not promote diversifying ideas and opinion. The sole aim of
education is to create a same understanding for everyone. For me, that is not
education, that is simply a quasi-indoctrination.
Back
to our main discussion. What does faithful mean in the current world? I like to
believe that you need to be faithful to yourself, be loyal to who you are. We were
different into the world. All of us possessed great and creative ideas to help
mankind to reach a greater height. But we are so busy changing, so busy
adapting in order for us not to be treated differently from anyone else. We are
so afraid of isolation or being secluded by the society. In fact, it is when we
are alone that we can truly discover ourselves. People will judge us for being
different, it’s human nature to be judgmental anyway. But they are only doing
so because we don’t let them to discover the different side of us. Humanity is
made to learn. Instead of changing and adapting, for the future of everyone, it
is high time for humanity to learn to be accepting.
Remember,
be faithful to yourself, even when the whole world is against you. In the immortal words of Ali bin Abu Talib, “It is
only when the darkest night, that the stars shine the brightest”
Wassalam.
